Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children REVIEW

MISS PEREGRINE’S HOME FOR PECULIAR CHILDREN By: Ransom Riggs
4/5 Stars
This book is very well written and it has amazing plot and story line. My favorite part was the beginning and middle. I remember there being a sort of “horror” factor in the beginning. Throughout the novel, there are original vintage photos, which are really neat. I love how it opened and how it kept my attention throughout. Ransom Riggs did a phenomenal job with development of characters. I hope another comes out. I want to know what happens after the cliff hanger!!! This book released me for an hour or so from my homework. It gave me relief, if not for a few minutes. I kind of hand to rush through the end, unfortunately. This book has great symbolism, imagery and characters. It would be a great book for a book report. It was a great book, all in all.

This post is for everyone who lived, died and cried on the day of 9/11.

Few realize how many walked away from 9/11 fine physically will never be the same emotionally.

How can they?

They never asked to be attacked. We were a naive country back then, we though nobody would attack because we were free.

How wrong we were.

Now it’s a country full of fear when they remember this day of sadness and act of hatred.

When you’re free you forget its a luxury, not a right for many countries.

Without America, the world would be full of dictators and hatred.

This is a reminder how lucky we are.

Without this hatred in the world, we would forget how we take it for granted every single day we walk free.

Don’t forget

that with freedom

comes responsibility.

This day brought this nation together

Everybody was an American.

We need to return to that.

We are weak when we should be united.

When in Rome: Movie Review

4.9/5 stars

This chick flick comedy starring the sexy and charming, Josh Duhamel as “nick” and intelligent and sharp  Kristen Bell as “Beth” make this movie a heart warming and laugh out loud hilarious movie for any couple or a your group of friends. This will keep you engaged until the very end with its twists and turns as Beth finds someone she loves more than her job.

Valkyrie: Movie Review

4.5/5 stars.

“I’m taking every opportunity to commit high treason… Can I count you in?”

The beginning didn’t really capture my attention because I’m not into the battlefield part of the movie however I shortly was enthralled, I got the guts of the story, the story line and plot. The audience soon learn that the main character has great identity and character. I liked how they opened with him writing in his journal. In addition, Kyle didn’t like it because the German parts weren’t in German, but I don’t think I could sit through a whole movie with subtitles.

This group that is initiating Operation Valkyrie are against Hitler and what he stands for, and they believe that he needs to go before the war is over, otherwise Germany will always be [known as] Hitler’s Germany.

“The trick about explosives is to not be there when they go off.”

The first scene with Hitler in my mind was  how it would have been played out, if you went back in time. You could feel the tension in the room as you were in the room with them. The actor who played Hitler looked weak and/or ill, it didn’t seem to fit what I think about Hitler.

Hitler in the bunker seems pretty weak, also. The actor looks old. I’m thinking it’s because this was toward the end of the war. If you know, feel free to comment.

“He did his part… Now you’re abandoning him!”

This movie takes a great deal to show how, even the people–politician or military–who are in on the Operation, are so scared to make a move against Hitler, that they’ll put it off, they nearly expose themselves in the process!

“I want to know that Hitler’s Germany has seen it’s last sunrise.”

When they’re initiating this operation, I’m also wondering where Hitler is for all this? No way he goes alive unnoticed… This operation was very brave of them to try to even think about, especially in a Government, Hitler made so tightly knit.

In the end, everyone wants to end up on the “right side”, really what that means the side that the status queue is on. In times like these you have to walk around eggshells to keep the status queue. So, in result, they don’t know who they’re alliance really lies with, which results in confusion and distress. Nobody wants to be caught being with the other sides enemy, so naturally they never try staying on “one side”.

The ending is really sad but great. It wasn’t a surprise ending, but it’s kind of like the Titanic, in the beginning you forget in the end it’s going to sink. This movie should remind everyone what integrity to self and country is really about. No matter what would happen to them, they wanted a better country for their children. These are people we should be looking up to. This movie is about what happens when there’s all talk but no action, even when you think you have people on your side and you do… but not really.

“…The world will know we put our principles above personal gain.”

I really like history so this movie was a no-brainer for me. Now, the next one I really want to see is Inglorious Bastards; maybe I’ll compare. This was an all-around good movie; history, plot, ending, music background. It was a great movie; I’d recommend it.

Angels & Demons: Movie Review

10 out of 5 stars.

Review:

This is a very thought provoking movie. The way everything is revealed to the viewer, keeps them on the edge of their seat to want more. I broke my own rule: Never watch a movie until you read the book. But in my defense, I didn’t know I’d be so interested to read it! This is a must see for any Christian, Catholic, Lutheran, Agnostic, Atheist, or anyone else interested in seeing these different sides to the Vatican. The point of view is very good because this Professor Robert Langdon [Tom Hanks] is really good at coming across as he doesn’t really know what to believe; he’s objective. He sees whats right in front of him; not what he wants to see or doesn’t want to see. This is a phenomenal movie.

Summary:

After 14 days of the Pope being dead, a professor symbolist Dr. Robert Langdon helps the Vatican solve murders of four Cardinals who are eligible to become the next Pope who are being murdered by an old enemy, the Illuminati (who started the Enlightenment). They incorporated Earth, Wind, Fire and Air. I don’t want to give away too much, so you’ll have to read the book, or watch the movie! Hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

No Mail on Saturdays?

As a frequent online shopper, I personally wish mail could be delivered seven days a week. USPS generally delivers a package to me after 3-5 days after purchase. This week, for example, I just ordered a DVD off amazon, and am counting on it arriving by tomorrow.  Six mail delivery days are usually pretty good though; but what if Mail is no longer delivered on Saturdays, and the Postal Service work week is cut down to 5 day weeks?

“USPS said it plans to incur about $238 billion in losses in the next 10 years”

According to an article posted in CNN, the possibility of a five day Postal Service work week is very real, and could take effect as early as October first this year! “A new five-day delivery schedule could save the cash-strapped Post Office $3 billion annually.” This all sounds a bit sudden to me; if the Postal Service had been loosing so much money for so long, why is this the first we’re hearing about this? Thankfully, they have yet to make a final decision as to weather or not they will in fact stop delivering on Saturdays.
